From the aerospace industry, a traditional market, to the emerging oil and gas production sector and the growing power generation segment, Alloy 718 is today's superalloy of choice for a wide range of applications.

Although alternative elements were available to use as a strengthener in this alloy, niobium was selected to improve stability at high temperatures - 5% niobium allows higher operating temperatures, thereby increasing efficiency in combustion engines, which results in lower carbon dioxide emissions.

The discovery of niobium's critical role in superalloys was the outcome of years of partnerships with leading universities and research institutes.
