A steel manufacturer experimented with increased niobium levels in plate steel destined for pipeline applications and found that the test results were better than those of conventional steels.
CBMM worked closely with the company to help develop new specifications for a pipeline steel that has higher strength and toughness, enabling the design of pipelines with thinner walls and larger diameters. Leaner, larger diameter pipelines mean more efficient oil and gas transportation and better use of resources. Using less steel also results in lower carbon dioxide emissions.
